I will still be updating here to the xanga site from time to time, but I will probably be writing more frequently at the blogspot address, so if anyone out there is still interested in my musings, that's where to check for them.
| sickening is the only way to describe the amount of time that passes between my posts. just sickening. i don't have a lot of time, sadly, so i'm going to do bullet points here, because i really do want to update some stuff. hold on to your hats....
-school = great. still loving my classes, but i feel myself getting sick of teaching. i think i realize that teaching is not "my calling" and i find it harder and harder to motivate myself to do stuff, but that aside, i still really love my job.
-so, in a stroke of luck, i was accepted to all four of the graduate programs i applied to back in the states, and as such, have decided to go to school at The University of Texas at Austin! i have wanted to live in Austin for as long as i can remember, so i am jazzed to get to be there. plus, they have a great program for library science / information systems, and so i am REALLY looking forward to being a student again.
-voting in primaries is really really fun! actually, voting in any form is great. i got to vote, once again, by absentee ballot and i had my roommate chronicle the event! obama for america!

-i recently turned 25. crazy. i celebrated by taking myself to paris for a few days. this is my face in front of the louvre. anyways, it was a great trip. 25 is pretty awesome, i guess.

-um, other things...OH! my family is coming to visit, sister and all, this weekend! i am jazzed. they will be here for a week, so we'll run around prague, hopefully visit karlovy vary or cesky krumlov or somewhere else, and then go to london for a day before they fly back to the states! should be a great great time, and i am really excited to have them here.
-so ya-i hope that i will update more regularly, because i think this is a good way to get in touch with people and i want to make sure i am in the habit of doing so before i leave prague in july.
-also, i am growing out my fingernails, and i am realizing that it is very difficult to type accurately on my tiny laptop keyboard with long fingernails. oh the things i never knew.....
check back soon. i'm going to get better at this--i hope.....
| So hello faithful readers. Just a quick hello to let everyone know that I am still around and doing well. Year three is in full swing, and I am loving it! This year, all my students are incredible (that's right, to any of you students of mine reading this--you're awesome). So work is great, and I've been having a super-fun time with my friends over here. Nothing super-pressing to report, just thought I'd say hello and let everyone know that things are going quite well. How are you? Seriously.
Also, I need ideas on what I should be for Halloween. It should be something that can be easily thrown together with minimal resources...first year I was a devil, last year I was a fairy....no idea what I should be this year...HELP! Adios.

| So, I know I don’t update this site very often….if ever….but I feel that the events of the past weekend merit an update, and then some.
So, Kassidee and Ben were both in Budapest this past weekend and I was in Ostrava visiting friends out on the other side of the Czech Republic. We were all gone from Friday until Sunday and I came back first out of all of us to our flat. So I came in around 4:30, started walking around the flat and decided that I was going to clean the kitchen, and went to put a dvd in so that I could have some distraction while cleaning.
When I got to the dvd player there was a little problem—there was no dvd player there. Nor was our vcr there. When Kass got home and went into her room she noticed that her digital camera was missing. Ben and I both lost a cd case full of movies, and one of my big suitcases was also taken. Yep---someone broke into our flat over the weekend and took some pretty cool stuff…
So we called the police and they came over with the incredibly awesome Crime Scene Team! It was seriously like our house was something out of CSI. They busted out this awesome silver heavy-duty briefcase and started taking pictures of everything, dusting everywhere for fingerprints, and doing something with a pair of tongs and some chemicals that I really don’t understand, but it was pretty darn cool.
So ya—Kass and Ben and I are just fine. The police don’t think that anyone will come back after this, but it’s just pretty weird. We found a grocery bag near the window that had a hair dryer in it and a bottle of Pepsi that they took out of the fridge and for some reason they chose not to take. Super strange…. Definitely nothing like this has ever happened to me before ☺

| three months without an update...probably a world record no--probably not. anyways, its been a good three months, all of my seniors passed their exit exams (!), the spurs are kicking butt and taking names, and my class with university students ended tonight, so i once again am free to do things on monday and wednesday evenings! however, eventhough i am returning next year, this is the time of year when i really start missing things, or just getting generally nostalgic. so, in no particular order, i will below summarize the highlights of the last three months, while intermittently expressing feelings of nostalgia....let's go! --highlight: czech. i have been studying a lot on my own since my course finished and am starting to feel a little good about it. when i work up the courage, i can even carry out semi-normal conversation (though riddled with grammar mistakes) --nostalgia: my seniors are gone :( the graduating class leaves a full month before school is out and i gotta say--its just sad without them. they were some really fantastic people, and so if any of them are reading this, i totally miss you and lets go hang out --highlight: went canoeing through several amazingly beautiful czech towns, saw some castles, and ended up in Česky Krumlov (google it), one of the most adorable places i have ever visited. also glad that while on the river, my canoe did not get attacked by some pirates running about (seriously...they were stealing people's food and drinks!) --nostalgia: stephen is going back to america. i cannot even begin to talk about this. i cry at the thought. --highlight: sam and nick's visa for the US was denied, which means they are going to stay in the czech republic next year!!! --highlight: we chose our classes for next year and i seriously have the best schedule in the world and get to teach some of the coolest kids ever. i am just pumped. --nostalgia / highlight: i am coming back to america in less than a month. while this carries lots of excitement for me (family, friends, my car, etc.), it's also a seriously strange transition and i find myself feeling out of place and "not quite at home" anymore. plus i have no money, so i can't really afford anything in america. filling up a tank of gas will cost me approx. 1/10 of my monthly salary... ok...its really hot in this office and i think i can safely stop there. hopefully in the coming days i will be faithful to any readers who have stuck with me through my horrid dry spell--i appreciate your support. truly. dobrou noc, a mě se hezky | | |
